Endometriosis and You

Endometriosis is an unfortunate condition. It affects approximately 10% of the female population. In the infertility circles – approximately half the patients would have endometriosis – many of the patients would have “silent” disease.

Endometriosis is defined as lining of the uterus outside the uterus. Why is this important?

It can affect fertility – by affecting the quality of the eggs produced, preventing implantation and sperm motility and ability to fertilise the egg. It can also cause problems with painful periods, painful intercourse and even sometimes bladder and bowel symptoms.

Did you know that endometriosis has 5 grades? From minimal disease to severe disease involving rectum, bladder and other vital pelvic organs.

Another little known fact is there are actually 6 levels of gynaecology laparoscopic surgeons. Level 6 is the most advanced level, and Dr Yoong has undergone extensive training and is accredited as a level 6 laparoscopic surgeon.

Dr Yoong has helped many couples fall pregnant naturally following surgery to remove endometriosis. He believes that endometriosis needs to be cut out (excised) to improve fertility results.

Dr Yoong is skilled enough to perform complex laparoscopic excision of endometriosis around the bladder, rectum, ureters and other vital organs in your pelvis. All this through minimally invasive surgical techniques – either the laparoscope or the robotic laparoscope.
